Check out this amazing post “Natalie Portman on Evangelism.”
This is exactly what we’ve been talking about in terms of participating with God’s “kingdom invitations.”

We had our first Penny Car Wash today!
People came to us, got their car washed, and got a penny with a connect card.
Of course, people thought they were going to be giving the penny. Or more.
I love creative ways of showing God’s love!
When asked why we refused to take money, I found myself saying, “God’s given us so much already, we just want to give back to the community.”
We got this idea from Steve Sjogren’s Dollar Car Wash. (”Penny” seemed a better fit than “dollar” here in Central Maine!)
As he says:
Why Do It:
- To show the love of God to our city / community.
- To redefine to our community who God is and who God’s people are:
- We are givers not takers
- We are the people of love, not meanness or accusation
Let’s face it, we have a lot of making up to do for more decades than any of us can count of an extensive negative, judgmental face we have shown to most of our cities.
- The list can go on Check out http://www.servantevangelism.com for more information.

Today was our annual Employee Appreciation Banquet under the tent. All Inland leadership serves a terrific meal to all the other employees. It’s a blast.
(Mardis gras was the theme. I’m the pirate type dude in the upper left. The one in the party hat with the mask, not the really cool one third in from the left. Alas mateys, they still called us pirates!)
Here’s another picture of me with Bob Chapman:

Just saw this in the Philanthropy Today email:
Private School Leader Resigns Amid Controversy
It’s the second time I can remember my alma mater, Milton Academy, hitting the national news and both for weird negative reasons.
Sure wish they’d report the incredibly cool things too! Like the Jazz Band playing on NPR in May. *sigh*
P.S. If you’re looking for some summer reading, check out what’s on the Milton students’ reading list: Milton Academy’s 2007 Summer Reading List

Yesterday was one of the singularly most frustrating days of my life.
To say I was sick is bordering on understatement. Let’s just say I spent more of Monday night in the bathroom than in the bedroom. So yesterday I tried to rest and stop shaking.
But my mind was going nuts. I felt guiltly that Em was doing so much. (Cale and Sof had similar experiences to mine.) But she was amazing and kept encouraging me to rest.
I knew what I was missing for appointments. What I could be working on for church. What I needed to do for my speech at the end of the month. What a good pastor would really do (read the Bible vs. the great novel “Glittering Images
” by Susan Howatch).
I kept thinking about how unproductive I was being.
The weird thing is that at our Church Planting Roundtable on Saturday, Phil Strout was talking about the fatality of thinking in terms of “productivity.” Especially in areas like soulcare.
I do want to be free from feeling compulsion to produce. But it’s not a comfortable weed to have pulled out of my life!
I REALLY feel for my friend Janice who’s been sick for a couple weeks now!
