Jesus and hiccups
April 21st, 2008 by Marc
Last night, my 3 year old told me that Jesus said to be nice.
Sof: Do you know why he said to be nice, daddy?
Me: No, why?
Sof: Because everybody has hiccups.
I think that’ll preach. Hope I can find the reference!

Yes Marc, it just may preach. Here are a few of my suggestions.
“Let those among you who have not “had the hiccups” cast the first stone.”
Peter “hiccuped” 3 times, when he denied Jesus
Peter fell into the water, when he looked at the waves, perhaps due to a “hiccup”.
In fact, we all have “hiccups” from time to time, we just have to recognize it when it happens, slow down, take some deep breaths and pray that by the grace of God, this too shall pass.
I think you can find plenty of instances when the disciples “hiccuped” and when Jesus, recognizing the human nature of said “hiccups”, gave us a model to “be nice” to one another despite our “hiccups”.
Sof, gets it. She, also seems to “get” what you say Vinyard is about, recognizing that you’re about ‘loving one another’ in the face of hiccups and not preaching the ‘gospel of hiccup management’.
