More naming help: Next homebrew is a Spiced Winter Ale

November 22nd, 2008 by Marc A. Pitman

Christmas is fast approaching, so I’ve got to get my Christmas brew started today!

Last year, I called a similar brew Advent Ale. Weird to think that:

  1. it was only my second batch of home brewed beer!
  2. And that I started it in September. Oy am I behind!

The ingredients I got in the mail yesterday are different from last year’s brew. So it needs a new name!

And you guys are GREAT at helping with names! Nuttin’ Ales ME and Bock of Ages were both terrific!

NorthernBrewer.com calls it a “Spiced Winter Ale.” Here’s what they say:

We started with a malty, medium-bodied Scottish-style ale. We added a hand-mixed blend of mulling spices: Ceylon cloves, cracked cinnamon, allspice, cardamom and mace. The result is a pleasant, festive holiday ale, perfect to share with friends and family.

So, what would you name this brew? Crazy and off-the-wall suggestions are definitely allowed! :)

An offensive mocking of JC (aka John Cleese)

November 19th, 2008 by Marc A. Pitman

Enjoying the new Monty Python YouTube channel, I somehow stumbled across this amazing gem of a Monty Python fan finding the Life of Christ a deeply offensive parody on the great JC – John Cleese.

It’s hilarious to watch this parody! Lots of great lines, but the “It has ceased to be” takes the cake!

Father-in-laws say the darnedest things

November 15th, 2008 by Marc A. Pitman

My father-in-law Guy stopped by the house today. I always enjoy visiting with Em’s parents. But visits can be a bit like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get.

At one point, we got to talking about our new kitten and helping her get used to our ways. Guy is really well versed in animal husbandry and horticulture, so I like hearing his take on things.

He said, “The best thing is to get them young and train them right.”

Then he looked at Em and said, “Just like Pitmans, huh?”

Apparently he’s well versed in husband‘s too! ;)

Our expanding family

November 13th, 2008 by Marc A. Pitman

We have a new kitten!! She came home from the humane society today.

Yesterday, she jumped in Em’s lap. But she chose to welcome me a bit differently!

It’s going to be fun getting used to her!

My current stack of books

November 8th, 2008 by Marc A. Pitman

My books, before and after the Amazon Kindle

Back in March, I wrote a post called What’s on your bedside table?.

Last month, I got an Amazon Kindle.

I love it!

I have about six times more books on my bedstand and room for my coffee cup. :)
